Yasmina Bouziane, de père marocain et de mère française, est née à Washington en 1968.
L’artiste, dans sa série d’autoportraits « Inhabited by imaginings we did not choose », restaure l’intégrité des Marocaines qui, jadis, furent photographiées pour le recensement des différentes physionomies arabes. Le titre lui-même, habités par des imaginaires que nous n’avons pas choisis, correspond à une thèse critique.
Les autoportraits présentés à l’Institut du Monde Arabe à Paris ont été réalisés en 1993 et présentés pour la première fois à la Gallery Langton Arts en 1994 lors d’une exposition personnelle intitulée “Inhabited by imaginings we did not choose”. Cette série a été présentée ensuite à plusieurs reprises dans des expositions internationales, notamment à l’Université Colombia de New York et à Copenhague. Les vidéos documentaires de Yasmina Bouziane ont été projetées dans le monde entier.
“The Yellow Nylon Robe”, un film réalisé
en, 1994, a reçu le premier prix du festival international vidéo de Berkeley.
Yasmina Bouziane a été décoré par Sa Majesté le roi Mohammed VI du Wissam de l’Ordre du Trône.
Elle entre dans la collection du Marrakech Museum for Photography and Visual Arts (MMPVA).
Yasmina Bouziane, a Moroccan father and a French mother, was born in Washington in 1968.
In the series of selfportraits intitled “Inhabited by imaginings We Did not choose”, the artist restores the integrity of Moroccan women who once were photographed for identification of different Arab physiognomy. The title itself, is a critical statement.
Selfportraits presented at the Arab World Institute in Paris was made in 1993 and presented for the first time at the Langton Arts Gallery in 1994 in a solo exhibition entitled
“Inhabited by imaginings We Did not choose”. This series was then presented repeatedly in international exhibitions, including at Columbia University in New York and Copenhagen. Documentary footage Yasmina Bouziane were projected worldwide
“The Yellow Nylon Dress”, a film made in 1994 , received the first prize in the international video festival Berkeley.
Yasmina Bouziane was decorated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Wissam of the Order of the Throne.
She enters the collection of Marrakech Museum for Photography and Visual Arts (MMPVA)
